Legalized prostitution Yes or No?

Today on The Economist site we have the next question for the reader’s debate “Shoud prostitution be legal?

Prostitution is the oldest profession of the world” we all know this expression and we all know that it’s impossible to end it. Prostitution isn’t only practice by women/men that are being slaved as an access of the criminal organizations.

Who among us did know some girl/boy from our university days that was prostituting them self to pay the college but it become much more then that because they acquire the taste to the luxurious style of life that prostitution gives them?

Being a prostitute is an individual decision about their own body and mind without attacking or damaging no other person, except in the case of slaved women’s of curse.

Society will never be free of prostitution, is part of it since we evolve to social animals, and if we think clearly and without prejudices we can see that is a “social service” because if some disturb man couldn’t get this woman service probably the number of violations will increase considerably.

So, the better policy about prostitution is to legalize it and we already have some examples of the effects of that policy in the society and in the prostitution industry, like in Holland.

First - legalizing prostitution and legislate about the professional obligations of the sector will end almost all criminal activity and slavery in the prostitution sector, because being legalize and supervised, the target market and the high profits of the criminal activities will disappear.

Second – legalizing prostitution will allow the Government to require from the professionals of the sector to frequently make health checkups to maintain their licence and to keep their health insurance. This way we can prevent the diffusion of diseases to both parts, professional and client.

Third – the place where the services will be provide get out of the streets, in the cases of low prices services as it happens actually, to a safe in doors locals and so the community is no longer obligate to se this service occurring on our streets.

Fourth – the activity will be obligate to pay tax and social security as any other economical activity with a non discretional receipt of the transaction, to maintain the privacy of the service. This way will reduce the underground economy and will increase the public budget making all that prostitution professionals regular members of the society.

After all this points what is better, keeping prostitution illegal and having the reality about this activity that we have actually, or take the decision of legalized it, as Holland and other countries have made, and change it from a social problem to a non public health/security problem and an active contribution to the public budget?

Each one of us will have to make our individual rational decision.
